OUR VISION
That children flourish when the child, environment and practitioners work in harmony; enabling a holistic approach to learning.
We have a clear vision of what we want to achieve at Bumbles Day Nursery;
• To encourage children to be leaders in their own learning, this should be nurtured with teachable moments.
• To ensure our families are heard and respected
• To respect children’s voices, they are important and should be valued.
• To prepare the children for life, not just for school.
• To allow children to manage, overcome and control their own fears by taking risks.

• to value and empower our children and staff by recognising and celebrating successes and achievements
• to promote well-being and respect
We will work with our local community, surrounding areas and form links and create partnerships with outside agencies to provide a holistic approach to caring for our children.

OUR CURRICULUM STATEMENT
Intent
At Bumbles, we recognise that all children are at different points on the same path to building knowledge to equip the for their future lives. Therefore, we begin by getting to know the child through all about me forms, home visits and conversations with parents. We then plan our curriculum to meet the needs of the children in our care. This enables us to decide on the resources we use to create an enabling learning environment. We follow an ‘in the moment planning’ approach alongside the EYFS framework which allows us to tailor our teaching to meet children’s interests, allowing them to flourish.
Implementation
Our highly skilled practitioners make choices on how to deliver the curriculum based on the needs of the children, underpinned by the characteristics of Effective Learning. We encourage children to be leaders in their own learning and we ensure their voice is heard by following their interests to create a child -centred approach. We use a range of open-ended resources to facilitate teaching and learning alongside creating opportunities for children outside of their daily experiences. It is these experiences and resources that give children the vocabulary and confidence to prepare them for their future.
Impact
We assess the impact of our curriculum by regularly reflecting on our practice. This can lead to adapting our teaching style, changing areas of provision, providing action plans and continuing our professional development. Our planning is evaluated weekly to support these adaptations within teaching and learning and any gaps in children’s learning are planned for. In addition to ongoing assessment, we assess children termly and identify areas for improvement. This then allows us to close the gap by supporting children’s development through being responsive and acting promptly.
The Definition of Teaching...
"Teaching should not be taken to imply a "top down" or formal way of working. It is a broad term which covers the many different ways in which adults help young children learn. It includes their interactions with children during planned and child-initiated play and activities: communicating and modelling language, showing, explaining, demonstrating, exploring ideas, encouraging, questioning, recalling, providing a narrative for what they are doing, facilitating and setting challenges."
‘It takes account of the equipment adults provide and the attention given to the physical environment, as well as the structure and routines of the day that establish expectations. Integral to teaching is how practitioners assess what children know, understand and can do, as well as taking account of their interests and dispositions to learn (characteristics of effective learning), and how practitioners use this information to plan children’s next steps in learning and monitor their progress.’
