Welcoming You and Your Little One to Bumbles Nursery

Starting nursery is a big and exciting step for any child — and we understand it can feel just as emotional for parents too! For many children, it’s their first experience being away from their main carer, and at Bumbles, we’re here to make this transition as smooth, positive, and comforting as possible for both you and your child.

We believe in working closely with families, building strong partnerships between home and nursery so your little one feels secure, happy, and ready to explore their new environment. Our caring team takes time to really get to know each child — not just here at nursery, but sometimes through a special home visit too, if you’d like to invite us in.

To help your child settle in confidently, we follow a gentle, step-by-step process designed around their individual needs:

Visit One – Getting to Know Us

Your first visit will usually be a detailed tour of our nursery, giving you plenty of time to explore, ask questions, and see where your child will play and learn.

At this stage, we also offer a home visit. This isn’t compulsory, but many families find it reassuring to meet their child’s key person in the comfort of their own home before they start.

Visit Two – Stay and Play

Your child will enjoy an hour in their new room, where you’re warmly encouraged to join in, “stay and play,” and chat with their key person about your child’s interests and routines.

Visit Three – Beginning to Explore

During this 1.5–2 hour visit, you can stay until your child feels confident, then take a little break while they explore independently. You’re welcome to relax with a coffee in our family room and even watch them settle in on our CCTV screen — a reassuring way to see how well they’re doing!

Visit Four – A Little Longer Stay

Your child will visit for around 3 hours, helping them get used to a fuller session and their new daily rhythm.

First Day – Official Start

When your child starts their first full day, we’ll make sure everything feels right for them. If extra settling time is needed, we can easily adjust their hours — we’ll work together to find what feels best for your family.

Settling-in Review (Around Session 6)

After your child has had a few sessions, we’ll meet with you and your child’s key person (either face-to-face, over the phone, or via video call) to chat about how they’re getting on, how they’re adjusting, and how we can continue supporting them both at nursery and at home.
